Back to Basics 2 – Love Scripture

Key idea: We should love and know Scripture because it teaches us about God, tells us how to have a right relationship with God, and provides wisdom and satisfaction for our lives.

“Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.” Psalm 119:97

I. Because It Teaches Us about God

“although He existed in the form of God…[He] emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant…Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:6–8

II. Because It Tells Us How We Can Have a Right Relationship with God

“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12

III. Because It Provides Wisdom and Insight to All of Life

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.” Psalm 1:1–4

IV. Because It Provides Lasting Satisfaction
