Think About These Things (Philippians 4:6-8)

Meditation – Thinking deeply about something

I. Meditation isn’t missing, it is misdirected

Colossians 3:2  — Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.

Colossians 3:5 — 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

II. Meditation isn’t just nice, it is necessary

Biblical Mediation – Thinking deeply about God’s Word

Example:

• Romans 8:38–39 — 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

• Truth to meditate on – God this [insert hard situation] is you loving me.

Discussion Questions

What do you worry about?
What is one truth you learned from today’s sermon? What is one question you have?
What is a biblical truth that you could meditate upon instead of worrying? Write it down!
Write a prayer to God about your worries. Do two things: (1) confess your worries to God as a failure to trust him, (2) ask for strength to meditate upon a biblical truth instead
Pray together!
