Ordo Salutis 3 – Justification (Romans 3.23-25)

What does a regenerate heart do upon conversion?
•    Faith – turning to Christ and trusting that he is able to save you
•    Repentance – turning away from your sin

What is justification?
Justification is when God instantly and forever forgives our sins, imputes to us Christ’s righteousness, and declares us to be righteous.

Rom. 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Rom. 3:24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
Rom. 3:25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith.

1.    We need justification because we are all guilty

2.    We are justified in Christ
a.    In Christ, our sins are forgiven
b.    In Christ, we are imputed (i.e., credited) with Christ’s righteousness
2 Cor. 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

3.    We are justified by grace

4.    We are justified through faith
a.    Instantaneously
b.    Forever

What good is justification?

1.    Justification frees us from shame and guilt

2.    Justification keeps us from pride

3.    Justification makes us worshipful
