2023 Japan KSE: Day 2 of VBS!

Day 2 is done! The week is starting to fly by :’)

Today the theme was: God loves you when you are worried!

In Yochien, Sammie taught them the story of David and Goliath. The kids were able to share during their reflection time what they are scared about and we were able to remind them that God loves them and is with them!

In crafts, Cindy led the kids in making Lion pillows while Yochien made lion fans. The kid’s pillows turned out to look more like baby seals instead of lions, but they were so kawaii!!

Seichi taught the story of Martha and Mary during lesson time and he taught them how we don’t have to worry because God knows, God understands, and God hears our prayers. One of the moms shared that she sat in on the lesson the other day and she was really touched by the truths that we are trying to share despite not being a Christian herself. We incorporated the “life discussion” time today with the lesson so the kids were able to share and talk about things they worry about, why they worry, and how they cope with their worries. Praying that these kids will come to believe and know that they have a God who is bigger than their biggest of worries.

During Rec, Katelyn had the kids play musical chairs. The kids had a lot of fun running around and getting their wiggles out.

For snack time, Alessandro introduced the kids to the wonderful world of Welch’s fruit snacks and also fed them extra buttery, Costco popcorn!

We ended music time today by introducing 2 more people on stage to help with the singing and dancing: Hide and Toshi’s bobbleheads! Thank you Pastor Kelly for designing and printing the giant bobbleheads for us! The kids and their families had a great laugh and thoroughly enjoyed Seichi and Tim impersonating Hide and Toshi on stage.

Lunch time was so sweet as so many kids and their mothers stuck around. We grabbed our bentos and sat around chatting. Some of us got to share a lot of laughs and silly conversations. We are hoping that even through those silly interactions it would open the door for future ministry opportunities and for them to see that Christians are their friend.

We are also so thankful for the Kawai’s and Saito’s hospitability. Machiko offered to launder our sweaty VBS t-shirts for us while Yasuyo has been running around picking up our lunches, making sure we’re staying on schedule since we’re renting the rooms from the building each day. Hide who has been picking us up from the train station each morning and shuttling us around all day!

Crazy how we are almost halfway through VBS! We love Japan, but we miss Torrance’s beautiful weather when it was a crazy 108F today! Chie Burns has been reminding us that despite the heat, we do it for Jesus!

また明日ね!(see you tomorrow!)
