Why The Church is Amazing pt. 2 (Ephesians 2:17-22)

Three metaphors for the church:

  1. Kingdom: we are citizens of Heaven (v19a)
  1. Kingdom means we need to gain entry
  1. Kingdom means there are no second class citizens
  1. Household: we are members of the Family (v19b)
  1. God is our FATHER!
  1. Other Christians are our BROTHERS & SISTERS!
  1. Temple: we are stones built into God’s house (vv.20-22)

Small Group Questions

Intro/Ice-Breaker:

  1. Temple: What do you know about OT temple worship? Why is it striking then that WE are the temple of God? How does being the temple transform the way you think and live?
  2. Kingdom, Household, Temple; which metaphor stood out to you? Why?
  3. Kingdom:  High school is often full of hierarchies (popularity, grades, athletic ability) and cliques. How is the church supposed to be different from high school social structures? And how can we actually treat one another as we ought to (like there are no second class citizens)?
  4. Household: you belong to other Christians as family. How does that change the way you view Christians in your life? (e.g. the sister you’ve been ignoring; the brother who hurt you; the brother you think is weird, etc.)
