Welcome to Sunday Fuel! This series of questions is designed to assist your personal reflection and fellowship with others about the sermon from this past Sunday.
Go to This Sunday’s Sermon (start at 20:50)
In our previous sermon, we looked at the proclaiming heart that shares the gospel despite persecution. As citizens of God’s countercultural kingdom, how do we live within our personal contexts to both do good for and slow down the decay of the worldly culture we live in?
1. Where in your current life situation do you have the opportunity to serve as an influence for Christ, e.g. your school campus, workplace, neighborhood or social circles? Alternately, identify one relationship where you can be salt for Christ.
2. Reflect on the beatitudes we just studied over the past few weeks. Is there one you need God’s grace and help to grow or deepen? How might this equip you to better proclaim truth and display the love of Christ through the gospel? Take time to thank God for all He has done for us through the gospel and ask for his help to reflect Him in the context he has placed you today.
3. Brainstorm a list of ways to do life within your chosen context or relationship. For example,
- Choose to join the lunch conversation instead of trying to get more done.
- Look for ways to show mercy, live purely, or be a peacemaker with others.
- Thoughtfully consider how to share the gospel to those in your circles of influence–and then speaking up when the opportunity arises.
- Commit to learn how to vote by reading up on current ballot issues.
- Consider how your daily routines might be opportunities to do life with others, including your own children.
- Think about some of the issues your children face that concern you. What does Scripture say? What conversations or activities can equip them with truth to respond to the worldly messages they hear?
4. Choose one idea from your list. What first step can you take towards being salt in this way this week? For example, put a date on the calendar to start or send a text to begin a conversation.
