Welcome to Sunday Fuel! This series of questions is designed to assist your personal reflection and fellowship with others about the sermon from this past Sunday.
- At the Good Friday service, we spent time soberly contemplating the death of Christ. On Easter Sunday, we reflect with hope on the resurrection of our Savior. In your own words, can you explain why the death of Christ was essential?
- Where do you look for a better life? What alternate “saviors” do you seek to find happiness in this broken world? What beliefs or rules do you live by? What people or things do you look to for salvation? How have your saviors failed you? Or how might they eventually fail you?
- Christ surpasses any other earthly savior because He not only died but did not stay dead. Through His death, He satisfies God’s just demand for our debt of sin while at the same time reconciling us to God so that we might be restored to God and made His children. Spend some time meditating on this act of love that changes everything. How might this sacrificial gift of grace change your values? Desires? Stance on sins in your life? Hopes and dreams?
- In this act of love, Christ also offers a better story. Consider this truth in light of your sufferings today. What hard things are you struggling with? This can be a difficult situation or it can be a hard thing that you are struggling to obey.
- Meditate on the power of God who turned this worst act of history—the murder of the innocent God—into the best blessing of history: the salvation of sinful man. How might this help shape how you view your difficult and hard situation today? Even if you do not understand this “screenshot” of your life, how might reminding yourself “God is loving me in this” help you to endure with perseverance?
- Read Galatians 2:20 again: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” In light of Easter, how can you now live life in the flesh by faith in Christ, in replacing your lesser saviors? In understanding the suffering in your current story?
