Sunday Fuel: Sept. 21, 2025

Welcome to Sunday Fuel! This series of questions is designed to assist your personal reflection and fellowship with others about the sermon from this past Sunday.

Go to This Sunday’s Sermon (start at 23:05)

1. What’s on your “spiritual resume”?

  • What are some natural privileges or advantages that you have inherited that you use to measure your value?
  • What are some of your achievements or commitments that you turn to as indicators of your worth? Where do you work hard to prove yourself or earn your standing before God and others?

2. Pastor Francis points out that when we rely on these things for our standing or use them as comparison points with others, we are trusting in a “Jesus plus something else” false gospel that does not save and robs us of our joy as well. How has that been true in your own life? Is there a sin underneath even your good works that needs to be brought into the light and confessed?

3. Meditate on the fact that we are approved and accepted before God by a righteousness not our own (Phil. 2:9):

“Its origin is ‘from God.’ The means to gain this righteousness is ‘through faith.’ And the basis of this righteousness is ‘in Christ.’ All the things you needed to do to be approved by God, Christ did. All the punishment you deserve for falling short, Christ took. He’s the only person who could ever boast a truly perfect resume. And yet, he trades that perfect resume for our imperfect resumes for all those who place their trust in him.”

  • Take some time to consider how that changes how you view your imperfect “spiritual resume.” How does Christ’s perfect resume bring you both safety and joy?
  • Pause to worship the Lord, considering the lyrics of the two songs we sang during the service: “All Sufficient Merit” and “All My Boast is in Jesus.”

4. How can you reframe all your advantages or accomplishments as a stewardship to God or as an opportunity to testify of His goodness and grace to you? Take the opportunity to tell someone this week about what Jesus has done for you.
