Sunday Fuel: Nov. 24, 2024

Welcome to Sunday Fuel! This series of questions is designed to assist your personal reflection and fellowship with others about the sermon from this past Sunday.

Go to This Sunday’s Sermon (start at 27:35)

  1. Pastor Kim defined gospel ministry as “the pursuit of the expansion of the gospel in the hearts of believers and in the salvation of unbelievers.”
  • In what ways are you serving the church family during this season of your life? How can you connect what you’re doing to gospel ministry—whether with children or retirees, public or private, large groups or one-on-one?
  • In what ways have you experienced God’s grace through the service of others? Take a moment to praise Him for His kindness to you through the saints.

2. Consider the following and select the category, if any, most descriptive of you:

For those of you who are serving but struggling:

  • Name your struggle (e.g. lack of joy, discouragement, conflict with others, uncertainty whether we’re effective, weariness).
  • Consider how your suffering in service might also be an expression of God’s grace to you. How might this hard season of ministry transform your heart and worship? How might it help you grow a deeper love and joy in the Lord? How might it humble you in your weakness and show you your need for Christ? How might it reveal idolatry, sin, or lack of faith and draw you back to Christ?
  • Can you thank God for your struggles in service, thanking God for the opportunities to grow in grace?

For those of you who want to serve but are challenged by your current situation:

  • What are some limits in this current season that you face?
  • Prayerfully ask God for creative ways to serve—faithfully praying for the church leadership and church family, preparing meals or other tasks, running errands, giving generously, etc.?
  • Idea: How might you get involved serving together as a family or with others?

For those of you who can serve but are reluctant:

  • What reasons come to mind for why you are not serving? What does this tell me about what you value?
  • For parents, have you used the excuse “my family is my first priority” as a cover up for “my family is my first idolatry”? If you have, how might your lack of service weaken or even counteract your teaching about Jesus to your children?
  • Will you allow godly conviction to lead you to seeking the Lord for forgiveness for your sin of selfishness, lack of love for God and others, or misplaced priorities? Confess how your inward bent has blinded you from seeing the lesser treasures that rule your heart.
  • Repent by offering yourself to Him in service. How might He want you to express that service to the church family? Were there any ministries at the Ministry Fair that you might explore? You may also wish to review the Ministries page on the church website.
