Sunday Fuel: February 5, 2023

Welcome to Sunday Fuel. This series of questions is designed to assist your personal reflection and fellowship with others about the sermon from this past Sunday.
  1. How should we think of work as Christians? How do we guard our hearts from living fragmented lives and see all of life (including work) as an offering to God?
  2. On Sunday, Brian said, “Work is designed for you to display the character of God to a broken world, desperate for a Savior.” Work is a stewardship that calls us to bear the image of God in the midst of his creation. How do you reveal the character of God in the way you use your skills and gifts?
  3. What sin and idolatry do you struggle with in the workplace? How does it keep your attention on yourself and hinder you from reflecting Christ?
  4. If we were to interview your co-workers, what would they say are your priorities? How would they describe your character?
  5. We witness for Christ by working unto the Lord (Col 3:23). Reflect on your work and write out the ways you display that you work unto the Lord as well as the ways you don’t display it (e.g. Unto the Lord: enduring suffering, working hard, pursuing excellence, praying regularly over stressful situations, responding with love when treated unjustly, being prepared, honesty, honoring those around you, sharing our lives from a biblical worldview | Unto ourselves: laziness, gossip, fear of man, dishonest practices, returning evil for evil)
  6. What are the everyday questions you hear at work? How might you reply to them with greater gospel fluency? (e.g. “What did you do this weekend?” “Our family went to church and heard a great sermon on work that really got me thinking about some of the fears that distract me from really enjoying my job as a gift from God that I can use to love others.”
  7. 1Pet 2:19 says, “For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.” When we are wronged at work, how we respond in those moments is the most powerful witness that we have because it shows Christ who loved us in the midst of his suffering. How might you prepare your heart to respond like Christ amid suffering in the workplace?
