Welcome to Sunday Fuel! This series of questions is designed to assist your personal reflection and fellowship with others about the sermon from this past Sunday.
1. Matthew begins and ends with the promise that God is with us and will be with us to the end of the age (Matt. 1:22-23; 28:19-20). How might this promise bring comfort and encouragement to you today, especially if you are going through a difficult time?
2. Review the genealogy of Christ. What are some names you recognize and what do you know about their stories? How does God show us grace to them and through them? How might God’s grace to them in their sin encourage you in your own failings and rebellion?
3. Matthew tells us that this is “the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham” (1:1). God made covenants to both David (2 Sam. 7) and Abraham (Gen. 12), and Jesus is the fulfillment of these promises. What other promises has Jesus fulfilled? Consider the faithfulness of God in orchestrating and bringing these promises to pass in Christ. Take time to praise and worship Him for His sovereign control, power, and wise plan and purposes.
4. With question #3 in mind, what are some promises that God has made to us as His children? How seriously do you take these promises? What do you struggle to believe or need to believe in this season of your life? How might remembering God’s faithful character help bring you encouragement and hope in the midst of your trials and troubles?
5. Is there someone you need to share this good news of hope with this season, as a good steward?
