Praise God for such a great first day of KSE!
As kids and moms started entering the worship room, there was a sense of excitement buzzing around. It was clear that everyone was looking forward to the week of KSE! It was a joy to see the KSE moms greeting one another and other Logos families, our team members introducing themselves to the kids and the moms, and the kids with their big smiles ready for the day.
The opening worship session was incredible! It was amazing to see how many kids were already familiar with the songs and dance moves. Even though it was only the first day, there was so much energy in the room. The teaching walked through creation and the fall of man. Rich was able to engage the kids with a fun anecdote about “Carl and the cookie jar” that helped them understand sin and our natural tendency to rebel and hide from God. The craft today was coloring tote bags, which the kids enjoyed. For game time, Ashley planned a fun 4 corners game connected to the lesson. When Ashley asked the 1st-3rd graders group, “Does God tell us truth or lies?”, all but two of the kids ran to the truth side. One of the boys on the truth side ran all the way over to bring those two kids over to the truth side! Mercy was so creative with tying the snacks to the lesson as well. After briefly summarizing the lesson, she presented two types of snacks (sweet and sour). The sweet snack was to represent truth from God and the sour to represent the lies from Satan. The preschoolers were surprisingly really engaged during the bible story time and when asked “Where does truth come from?”, a few were even able to answer “Kami-sama! (God!)”.
Before KSE, we were able to eat at Alessandro’s favorite ramen restaurant. It was delicious! After KSE, the team ate dinner with the Kawais, Saitos, and Tiptons (a missionary family) at Primetree, a mall right across the street from our hotel. We ended our day with sweet treats of hojicha latte and matcha soft serve. What a blessed time of fellowship and being encouraged by their love for Christ and the church.
After the first day of KSE, God revealed to us how He can still use us well in our weakness. Despite some of our members getting little sleep the night before, God sustained us throughout the entire day and seeing the kids and moms’ excitement for KSE was so encouraging. It was awesome to see how KSE has impacted these families and is something that they look forward to every summer.
