In the Weeds (and Loving It)

April 20, 2026

Since our last update, things have continued to move forward, even if there isn’t a dramatic story to tell this time around. Our Campus Expansion Planning Team has been meeting regularly with the Visioneering team to work through the Schematic Design phase, which is basically where we start translating the big-picture vision for the campus into actual, real-world plans. It’s a lot of meetings and a lot of decisions, and we’ve been grateful to have Visioneering guiding us through it.

One of the things we’ve been spending a lot of time on is working out the details of our various ministry spaces: how each room functions, what furniture and built-in features they’ll need, and how we imagine our church family will use these different spaces. If you’ve ever tried to figure out the best way to organize a kitchen, or how to arrange a living room so that it actually works for your family, you have a small taste of what this process is like. Multiply that by the number of ministries at Lighthouse, throw in some structural columns that can’t be moved, and you get a sense of why this takes a while. But our Planning Team has been going above and beyond to try to keep us moving quickly and efficiently. Jamie Collier, who has been representing our Children’s Ministries programming, showed up to her planning meeting with Visioneering armed with her own floor plans and furniture layouts, and the team at Visioneering were shocked (dare I say, gobsmacked) at her level of preparedness.

We’ve also partnered with HouseRight, who will serve as our AVL (audio, video, and lighting) contractors, and we’ve begun getting into the weeds of systems designs and all the various AVL decisions for the new building. This is Pastor David’s happy place. If you’re looking for a few hours to kill, stop and ask him about what part of our planned AVL systems he is excited about.

Our Conditional Use Permit process is now underway! This has required hiring civil and structural engineers to evaluate site work and get our plans ready for the city. Visioneering has also engaged the City of Torrance to begin our CUP application, and we are off and running with this critical part of the project!

For many of you, floor plans, subwoofers, and city planning is not what you’re here for: you want to know what the building will look like! We’re getting close to the point where we can start answering that question! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sitting down with Visioneering’s interior design team to start working through the aesthetics and feel of our spaces. Kelly Kira and Kristy Ueda have been carrying the design vision for Lighthouse on our Planning Team, and if you know their work, you already know that we are in very good hands. They have a really compelling, beautiful vision for what our new space can be, and we can’t wait for you to see it.

We have a lot more that we’re looking forward to sharing with you. We’re planning a one-year anniversary celebration of our Treasuring Christ Generosity Initiative on Sunday, May 3rd, and that’s going to be a great opportunity for us to look back together at what God has done this past year and share a much clearer picture of what lies ahead.

In the mean time, here’s a little sneak peak of things to come. We can’t wait to show you more!
