Japan VBS 2026: Prep Days (7/19-7/20)

The last couple of days have been filled with preparations for KSE, but even in the midst of errands and setup, we’ve already seen God’s kindness and faithfulness!

Our first morning started with breakfast at the hotel, which we didn’t even know was included! Mark, Cindy, and Rich met Daisuke, who works at the hotel, last year and it was cool that he still remembered them. God opened an amazing opportunity for us to talk with him and invite him to Logos. He plans to come to the American Party and church on Sunday! Please pray that the Lord would continue to soften his heart & that he would hear the gospel clearly.

The rest of the day was spent gathering supplies for KSE before heading to Logos. It was my first time attending a Sunday service there and it was such an encouragement to worship alongside our brothers and sisters in Japan. Seichi service led and Toshi preached on Psalm 148 on how all creation praises the Lord, from heaven and from earth, but especially His people. One line that stuck to me was, “We can praise God not only as those who were created, but as those who have been saved.” As we prepare for KSE and spend time in Japan, that continues to be our prayer, that everyone here would come to know Christ as Savior and praise Him as those redeemed by His grace.

After church, we had dinner with Logos members at the LaLaport mall foodcourt. It was a sweet time of fellowship with some of the families before KSE began and makes us even more excited for the week ahead.

The next morning, we did a prayer walk around the Ikomaikan, the community center where KSE will be held, before spending the day setting up. It was so encouraging to see the members of Logos come ready to serve. Everyone jumped in wherever they were needed, even the kids! It was a beautiful picture of the body of Christ serving together to make Him known.

We ended the day with dinner at Naoto’s home. As great as konbini food and other restaurants have been, nothing beats a home cooked meal shared around the table. It was so sweet, everyone brought somethings to share and it all went so well together. We’re so thankful for the hospitality we’ve experienced and for how warmly the Logos church family has welcomed us.

Prayer Requests:

  • As KSE begins tomorrow, pray that the Lord would prepare the hearts of every child and family. Pray that the gospel would be proclaimed clearly and that Christ would be glorified in every lesson, game, craft, and conversation
  • Pray for our team, the leadership, and all the volunteers, that we would serve with humility, joy, and love
  • Pray for the Logos members teaching the upper elementary class. This is the first year they’ll be leading it. Praise God for raising up leaders within the local church! Pray that He would equip them to faithfully teach His Word.
  • There are 10 new families registered for KSE this year! Please pray that they would feel welcomed and loved, and that the Lord would use this week to draw many of them to Himself.
  • One prayer request we’ve consistently heard from the missionaries here is for language. Please pray that God would continue helping them learn Japanese so they can faithfully communicate the gospel, build deep relationships, and make Christ known.

Thank you all for continuing to pray for us and check in. We’re so grateful for your partnership and can’t wait to share how the Lord works through KSE this week!
