Even as Pastor David officially steps into his position as an elder of our church, let us take some time to consider how we might both pray for him and minister faithfully alongside with him. Pick a few of these areas from Colossians 1:28-29 to pray for, both for him and for yourself.

1.     The Person: Who is at the center of your ministry—Christ alone or someone else (even yourself)? Pray that we might proclaim Christ and glorify Him in our service, even if it means we are forgotten.

2.     The People: Who is ministering alongside with you? Do you tend to try to minister on your own? Or have you been withholding your contribution to the church family? Pray that, despite our roles, God will help us work together as a church family towards the same goal: proclaiming and glorifying Christ together.

3.     The Proclamation: Think through this past week’s interactions with others, at church, home, or even through your texts.. How have you proclaimed Christ to others—in your small group, counsel, or even informal conversations? Pray that in the coming week, we may faithfully proclaim words of truth, comfort, and help to others in what we say.

4.     The Purpose: Who is someone who has helped you this past week to know and follow Jesus more closely by their words or actions? Will you share that with them?  Is there someone in your life that you can come alongside to minister to this week so they might grow closer to Christ? Ask God for wisdom on how.

5.     The Power: What is your unique ministry in this season of your life that God has given you–whether it is vocational ministry, volunteer ministry at church or the hidden ministry of loving and discipling children at home, what does it look like for you to toil, even struggle to serve, in His  energy to love or serve? Pray that He will be your strength and power source in your ministry.

Take a moment to thank God for and pray for our elders and pastors in these areas, and consider how you might make their leadership a joy.
