- In this race of ordinary life, what “prize” are you running towards? Take time to slow down and assess what matters to you. What are you living for? Where are you finding your greatest joy?
- Consider the contrast between complacency and godly contentment. Are there sins in your life that you have been “content” to leave unaddressed, such as lack of generosity, wasting time online, impatience, sporadic church commitment, etc.? Are there areas in your life you know you should care more about? On the flip side, are there ways where your busyness has become a source of pride?
- Godly contentment, on the other hand, is discontentment with not knowing and experiencing Christ enough. Would you say that describes your heart? If not, take some time to admit that to the Lord and pray for His help to grow a true hunger and longing that pushes you to pursue Him.
- Where is your heart not at rest? What is it you are longing for? How are you trying to get it? How might the gospel truth that you belong to Christ (v. 12), a beloved child of God, help you find rest for your soul? Take time to confess the ways you have sought other alternatives to rest or perhaps even running the wrong race entirely. How might gospel truth help you to faithfully run the race of faith?
- Paul’s longing for more of Christ spurred him on to pursue Him with his whole heart. What are some ways you can pursue Christ this week? Are there ways you can turn your heart and mind towards Him through reading Scripture, books, or worship? Make time and space to invest in this pursuit of the Lord. Invite a friend to keep you accountable or to “run” with you.
