Children’s Ministry

The passion of Lighthouse’s Children’s Ministry is to glorify God in and through the children of our church. Our hope is that each child will know God, love God and have a growing relationship with God. We believe the Bible teaches this begins with the gospel message, which explains that man is sinful, that Jesus died on the cross to pay for those sins and rose on the third day and that forgiveness, a renewed relationship with God and eternal life are available to all who confess and believe this is true.

Mission Statement

Children’s Ministries at Lighthouse is committed to assisting parents in the evangelism and discipleship of their kids for the glory of God  (Ephesians 6:4Deuteronomy 6:6-9). Our vision is for each child to glorify God by loving God and loving others.

Theme Verse

Our theme verse is Deuteronomy 4:5-10. We believe that a child who knows God’s Word:

  • Listens to God’s commandments
  • Lights the paths of others
  • Learns of God’s goodness
  • Lives in the fear of the Lord

Would you like to serve in the children’s ministry? If you have been attending Lighthouse at least three months and have been a Christian at least one year, demonstrating a growing, fruitful relationship with Jesus, please consider serving.

To volunteer, please do the following:

  1. Observe for two weeks in the age group of your interest. Contact Jen Shida at to schedule an observation.
  2. Complete the online volunteer application form (adult or youth) or the hardcopy (adult-version only) and return to Jen Shida.
  3. Obtain a Live Scan form by emailing Jen Shida at and take it to an approved site to get fingerprinted. Return completed Live Scan to Jen Shida along with the receipt for reimbursement.
  4. Attend a children’s ministry training meeting to go over ministry policies. This meeting is scheduled periodically, so we will contact you once you have submitted your completed application and Live Scan form.

Lighthouse asks parents who have a child participating in any of the children’s ministry classes to serve one Sunday a month. This gives them an opportunity to serve God, the other children, and parents. It also allows us to provide a higher teacher-student ratio.

If parents are unable to serve on their scheduled week, they can switch with another parent volunteer who also serves in that class. Please contact Jen Wu at and the appropriate class leaders about any changes.

Parent helpers need to be aware of the following children’s ministry policies:

  1. The “Never Alone Rule” – an adult is never allowed to be alone with a child/children unless that person is the child’s parent. This applies at all times, including trips to the bathroom.
  2. Sick children will not be admitted into the children’s ministry.
  3. In the case of an earthquake, children are to remain in their classrooms unless there is a greater danger by staying (e.g., fire). If evacuation is necessary, all classes should exit to the parking lot.
  4. Men are not allowed to have children sit in their laps.
  5. The same parent needs to sign his or her child(ren) in and out.
