Church Plant: Zoe Community Church of North Dallas, TX
Lighthouse has been blessed with the opportunity to send out its first church plant! In the spring of 2016, Zoe Community Church launched its ministry in the North Dallas, TX, led by Pastors Jesse Terasaki, Eric Lau, and James Szeto.
Here’s their story in their words:
Zoe is a non-denominational church plant of Lighthouse Community Church in Torrance, CA. We had been praying about planting a church for about a year when Toyota announced that it would be moving its corporate offices from Torrance, CA (suburb of Los Angeles) to Plano, TX (suburb of Dallas), and our leadership began to pray about a possible ministry there.
We met and talked with local churches in the North Dallas area to see what the spiritual climate was. Even though there are many churches and Dallas is part of the “Bible Belt,” these pastors shared with us the need for more gospel-centered ministry and ministry that focused on the heart. Their burden was for the thousands of people who lived in this Christian-saturated area who had never personally responded to the gospel of Jesus Christ. And the number is only increasing.
The Dallas Metroplex, and North DFW in particular, is growing fast. Toyota, Liberty Mutual, and FedEx among other companies will bring many newcomers to the area in the coming years, and naturally there will be many who come to Dallas and do not know Jesus. We saw an opportunity to be here, to welcome transplants and to show them the love and hospitality of Christ and share the message of the gospel. We also saw an opportunity to provide a home for those who might be looking for a new church family.
What began with prayer because of Toyota quickly grew beyond it. We made the commitment to move from California to Texas at the beginning of 2015 and have been in preparations ever since. God has placed a burden on our hearts to share the gospel message of Jesus with our neighbors in Plano and the surrounding areas. Almost 75% of our church planting team do not work for Toyota and are moving primarily for the sake of the church.
Lord willing, Zoe Community Church will launch May 1, 2016.
