The Real Controversy of Christmas

Nathan Busenitz, historical theologian extraordinaire and one of the proprietors of the excellent Cripplegate blog, has posted a helpful historical perspective on the real controversy of Christmas. He writes:

Mention “Christmas” and “controversy” together in the same sentence, and most evangelicals will assume you’re talking about Santa Claus, Christmas trees, or the secularization of the winter holiday season.

A chill is in the air, stockings have been hung, and every square inch of your life has been inundated with a crush of Christmas music. "Celebrating Our New Building" - A Lighthouse Film

During the first worship service at our new church site, we watched the following film as a testimony to God's faithfulness to our church. We hope that you are reminded that the church is not composed of brick and mortar, but saved sinners being transformed by God's grace.

Many thanks to Louis Kreusel and Dave Misumi for laboring over this film.

Here Come the Suns!

Sending out our missionaries is a thrilling experience. But so is welcoming them back.

New Site. Same Church.

A church is more than a building. And yet buildings have their roles to play. After years of waiting on the Lord's timing, he has seen fit to give us a more permament building to use for ministry. Starting on Sunday, September 11, 2011, Lighthouse Community Church will be located at 501 Van Ness Avenue, Torrance, CA 90501.

Here's how you can help make the transition to our new home one that honors the Lord.

Are You For Real?

Do you hate fakeness? Call it what you want—disingenuousness, lying, hypocrisy—but we normally reserve our largest frowns for that which is not real.

The call of our Lord is to take the metaphorical plank out of our eyes. We, as believers, need to always turn our eyes from hating the sin in others, to hating the sin in ourselves first and foremost. You know, you and I really need to stop. We need to stop and ask ourselves, “Am I genuine?” And more specifically, “Is my love genuine?”
